This was a fun stop some 17 km west from Yekaterinburg where a simple Obelisk marks the "border" between Asia and Europe, East and West.

I always wondered if my brother swung both ways - I guess this answer it...

Tradition has it that first time visitors to the site must indulge in a bottle of Champagne and, being traditionalists at heart, we partook of a drop of three of a Russian "pink champagne" provided by our tour guide - it was actually a lovely drop and went down well in the cold, misty, wet of the moment.

There is the inevitable tourist / gift shop - it has a chicken on it's roof to the left representing Europe, and a dragon to the right representing Asia. We understood the dragon reference, but a chicken for Europe?

I think John was the only one who bought anything there but the bear items were cute symbology.

Nearby there are hundreds of ribbons tied by newlyweds which is apparently supposed to bring them good luck.

Our guide also proudly presented us with "official" recognition of our "act of bravery, crossed the boundary between two continents EUROPE and ASIA!"

Ekaterinburg - Military Technology Museum

One of the largest of its kind in the world

This vast indoor and open-air collection of tanks and armoured vehicles is one of the largest of its kind in the world, with an extensive range of large military tanks and helicopters located outdoors, and smaller military craft and retro automobiles on display indoors.

We simply did not have time to do this place justice - it is enormous. Here is a selection of images of some of the exhibits.

Tyumen to Ekaterinburg - 326km

View As the Crow Flies Russia 2019 on stevecrownz's travel map.

Glorious! A short day! Only 326km to ride!

This gave David the opportunity to take the time to stop and 'play' with his drone so we when we saw a village about half a kilometre off to the north of the highway we turned off to explore it and for David to launch the drone and get some really cool footage of life in rural Russia.

We were particularly taken with the local shop; the only shop in town.

David and I bought an ice cream each from store; which was 'staffed' by a young woman who was particularly shy about being photographed.
